5 Reasons Why We Appreciate the U.S. Military

May is a month to spring forward and celebrate many things—from Mothers Day to Memorial Day. But It’s also a month entirely dedicated to honoring the men and women who currently serve our country. Military Appreciation Month celebrates everyone who serves in the Armed Forces and their spouses.

The U.S. Congress officially designated it as a national month of recognition in 1999. At IBVI, we’re honored to work with our armed forces to supply them with what they need to do their jobs well. We appreciate them all year long, but May is an extra special time to celebrate, support and reflect on the reasons why we love the U.S. Military. Here’s our shortlist of impressive reasons why we love and celebrate our U.S. Military.

  1. History
The U.S. Military is older than our country. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Dating back to June 14th, 1775 when the military was first assembled as the Continental Army during the American Revolution—our military was responsible for fighting and winning our independence as a united sovereign nation. And they’ve been protecting that freedom ever since.
  2. Security
Since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the U.S. Military and National Guard has mobilized more than 500,000 service members in its state role—playing a crucial role in homeland security and defense.
  3. Technology
Think about the tools and technology you rely on everyday, and chances are you can thank the U.S. Military for it. From GPS and AI to microwaves and the internet—it was all made possible thanks to the innovation of the U.S. Military.
  4. Relief
In times when our country has needed it most due to natural disasters, branches of the military are deployed—often in the thousands—to offer disaster relief and aid. Without their immediate response, the size and scope of the aftermath of U.S. natural disasters would be untold. But it doesn’t stop there. The Military also provides relief on an international scale with just as rapid of a response. Military bases stationed in over 74 countries and Marine Expeditionary Units, commissioned by the Navy, patrol oceans around the world and can reach the shoreline of nearly any location on Earth in under 48 hours.
  5. Opportunity
There are more than 800 career paths and specialties available in the various branches of the U.S. Armed forces spanning all types of interests and skill sets—from engineers and intelligence to office administration, medical, aviation and tactical combat. And with each opportunity is the chance to also provide purpose.

But one of the most important reasons we love the military is the PURPOSE they give us. At IBVI, we have the unique privilege of supplying the U.S. government and military with the everyday and mission-critical supplies and customized kits it needs to function. This unique relationship with the military gives us purpose. It’s our way of indirectly serving our country and honoring the men and women of our military—who put their lives on the front lines to protect us. And in doing so, we are not only able to provide the supplies and custom kitting our military needs, we’re also able to provide more jobs for the blind and visually impaired.
